We did the Lamanai and New River ..takes you for the entire day to the ancient Mayan ruins of Lamanai(means-submerged crockadile) first by tour bus-1 hr. then in a speed boat(had twin 220hp engines)for 1hr. dropped off at the river site, lunch prepared by Mayan women, excellent lunch, plenty of cold water and sodas-in glass bottles- ruins-950 acre site, being reconstructed by Mayan craftsman..Small museum on site, and a few shops to buy souveniers..Excellent trip..We did this one June 2002 from the NCL Sun. *Very hot and humid in the jungle, and the howler monkeys scream as they swing from the upper tree branches..
Enjoy whatever you pick..
Dona in Canada
Thanks Dona. The boat, Paradise, offers a shoretour to Mayan site: Xunantunich. It is a seven hour tour with bus trip. I am so glad you warned me about the monkeys, I would have freaked..ha. This is our first cruise and we are really excited about it.
What ever tour you take at Belize, keep in mind that about 2 hours at least have to be allowed for traveling. Many also will include a local lunch stop. There is little to do on your own at the port but some limited shops in a nice seaside village. We leave on Friday and plan to do Cave Tubing with Reggie.
