Default excursions

My husband and myself will be on our first cruise in October. I have many questions about excursions. First of all we will be in the ports of Cosumel and Costa Maya. We are interested in Mayan Ruins and snockling. I just don't know which port is best for which excusion. I am also wondering about booking excursions. If you go with Carnival I know they will make it back to the ship on time, but I don't want to pay extra and be on an excursions that is over crowded.

What do you all thing of getting an excursion after your in the port? Sounds good to me because you will know your exact time of arrival and departure of the ship and you will know what kind of weather you will be having. Has anyone got any pointers on what to do and what not to do? Are the same excursions offered after you get off the ship as before you get off the ship?

I have not been to Cozumel yet, but plan on trying this when we do go. It is cozumelhomes.com and is a dune buggy excursion. It includes you driving your own dune buggy around the island to a beach. You can snorkel, they make you lunch (included) and then go to see some ruins. They are not the largest ruins in Mexico, but not bad for a day trip. They provide you with all the liquid refreshments you can drink and from what I have read a very nice day. just a thought for you to research. Good luck.

have been to cozumel many times, we rent a vehicle and scour the island ourselves, we had a blast, i recommend you go to the destination section on the message boards, if you havent already, there were less tourists around, were not afraid at all, went around the island twice.
