Dressy sweater?

What is a Dressy sweater?

I'm sure to most it is a silly question, but I can't figure out if I have one. I have sweaters, but not sure what a dressy sweater would look like.

I have a thin black cardigan which I consider a "dressy" sweater. I would definitely bring one with you. I find the dining room and the lounges can get very chilly.

I am from the UK so I hope dressy sweater means the same here as in the US! We would class a sweater dressy if it had sequins or some sort of sparkle, or perhaps was made out of cashmere! Is this the same in the states?

a dressy sweater is of a fine-gauge knit,(cashmere- definately) usually with pearl buttons and maybe a lacy knitted pattern on the cuffs, collar or bottom of the sweater. No chunky cables.

I went yesterday to buy a simple light- weight/delicate sweater. I wasn't impressed with the buttons so I'll just change them.
It is either light gray or a bluish gray if that makes any sense.

I think I am the only person on earth who does not like "cashmere", but I have had a disliking to it since I was in was carrying my younest daughter (now 14 years old). The smell it takes on when it gets wet makes me ill.
I wish I could get over it though because cashmere feels like a touch of Heaven.
