We take ours. They're 5 mile range and have lots of sub-channels. We've found they work pretty well. Sometimes if someone is on the lowest floor and the others are at the pool they won't work to well, but overall we've had good luck with them. We bought the ones that have the charger base which saves a lot on batteries.

It all depends on the amount of metal between the radios. If one radio is on a lower deck in the back of the ship and the other radio is on an upper deck on the front of the ship then you likely won't get reception. Even two decks from one side to the other side, cabin to cabin, they won't work sometimes.

But I have found if I put my radio on the sill of the window it'll pick up the other radio from all over the ship. Remember, radios broadcast a spherical transmission, so if that transmission can get outside it's better reception.

Regards,
Thomas

We use them during our cruises with minimal problem on the ship.
