Newbie Questions

We're leaving on Holland America one way from Vancouver to Alaska in 10 days, and have a few questions for all of you experienced cruisers.
1.Our balcony room hasn't been assigned yet, how does that work?
2.On a 7 night cruise what nights are usually formal? We have a reservation at the Pinnacle Grill one night so if it's a formal night can we ditch the tux?
3.Do you think my dressy pants outfit(Black crepe) is OK for formal night? My husband is wearing a tux?
4. Is my pile- lined rain jacket warm enough for my only jacket if I have a long sleeve knit shirt and sweater underneath?

You may want to post on the Holland America board to get answers about your specific ship ( the formal might questions). I wore polar fleece with a sweater underneath in Alaska in August. I was OK for the most part. Going through the glaciers was chilly. Throw in a pair of light gloves. A hat if you get cold easily. My sister has always worn a crepe pant suit on formal night, but I'm sure there are some that will say that is not dressy enough! Have fun!
