Default casino odds

I love the slots, but I don't want to waste my time and money if the odds are really terrible. Does anyone ever win on cruise ships?

Funny you mention that! I have never heard of anyone winning, other than small, in a casino on a cruise.

Good question! Anyone ever win out there?

My bil won - I think about $1,000 on his first try!

BossyGossy you out there? How much did he win?

I've never been that lucky, but am not a big fan of the slots anyway.

Well, I just returned from the cruise I was inquiring about. I think I broke even. Lost on the quarter slots but hit a $300 win on the $1.00 slots. The best thing about playing the slots: When I felt queezy on the open ocean in Alaska I went to the casino and my queeziness would disappear. Funny how that works!

The slots are set at Las Vegas odds, i.e. the house can enjoy a maximum 17% advantage. This is the ICCI law.

This means that of every $100 you play you can expect to pocket $83 or more, on average. Now not every machine is set for maximum house advantage, they do love for the machines near the doorway and walkways to go "ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.........." because it attracts in more customers.

And Will, sorry to inform you, but there is no bet in the casino that is 50/50 odds. You must count the two green spaces on the roulette wheel too, it's impossible to ignore them.

Regards,
Thomas

I had good luck last summer on Carnival Miracle. I walked off with $2000.00 in cash winnings from blackjack. It just about paid for my entire cruise and bar bill! Table games are the only way to go (blackjack and craps). Slots have the worst odds. I'll be taking enough cash on my next cruise in Sept. to make sure I have a good bankroll to spend 5 or 6 hours a day in the casino....

The odds are the same on the table games as in most other casinos.

On the slots, everyone has their theories on the ones that pay best, or are hot, etc, etc, etc. In Vegas and AC, it's all urban legend. Unless they are specifically advertising something on a certain set of machines (say, 101% payout on dollar machines), the machines are normally all set the same, no matter the denomination or placement within the casino.

If you have the money, you're probably better off on the table games. If you want to entertain yourselves with a $20, play the slots. Remember - it's entertainment. Take it too seriously, and you might as well just call it work.

I was quoted this from my TA, wether it is true or not......I am not much of a gambler but do I love bingo! Anyways she told me that the machines are set so that the cruisers will win. The cruise ships want the passenger to have a good time and if they are losing all their money then it aint a good experience. If they see that a passenger is really blowing there money they will be cut off for the evening. They also said though if you are wanting to play and actually make a little you should stick to the card games. This is just what the TA told me, I spent $20.00 on the nickle machines and got squat, my firend won $300.00 and some others that we met who got married on the ship won $5000.00. I won $120.00 on bingo. Good luck!

Sorry Wil, Thomas is right .If you bet black and red and it landed on green then uh oh you lose it all no 50/50 there. Of course you would never do that but its just to prove a point.

To calculate the odds for blackjack go here http://www.qfit.com/calc.htm

All the cruise line Ive been on use 8 deck shoes. RCCL has a single deck game also on EoS and the dealer also hit soft 17 which really cranks up the odds in their favor.

Thomas could you elaborate some more on this. Im unfamiliar and since the ships operate in international waters assumed they set the odds to whatever they want.
