Wow - What a great time we had!! I was nervous for no reason. Everything worked out well. My son made friends on the 2nd day and spent a fair amount of time playing in the arcades with them. He spent the remainder of the time with dear ol' Mom! The food was great. The activities were fun. The shows were entertaining. We are ready to go again!
Thanks to everyone who gave a first time cruiser lots of advice. I discovered the following suggestions were definitely worthwhile:
*Bring an over-the-door shoe organizer. We really used that!
*The travel alarm clock is a must.
*A traveling water bottle with a neoprene (or something like that) cover
*Post-it notes to use for leaving messages for the cabin stewards or family members
*Don't overly worry about the formal dress or clothing for the dining room. I worried about it and there were many, many who were not formally dressed.
*Get the fountain card if you or your kids are soda drinkers.
*Debarking was a breeze. We had more than ample time to get to the airport for a 12:45 pm flight out of Ft. Lauderdale.
*We didn't need walkie-talkies. A simple watch with "check-in" times was fine.
Thanks for all of your advice. My son is going to research the next cruise so that we can book it now! YEAH!!!! 8)
