Default credit cards?

I read that cruise ships only take credit cards, is that true?
We do not use credit cards and the only card we use is a Visa debt card
(with the Visa logo) that is attached to our bank account. Is this sufficient
or will the cruise line want something more?

Hi Cap,
Those do work just fine, but a regular credit card may be the better card to use. In case there is any problems, they money will be taken directly from your account, just something to think about. They will also let you put up some cash and you can use that for the week. Just keep a daily tally as to what all you are putting on your account, it does add up quickly.

capgirl -
I don't know where you reside but I was informed that as we were not
US residents, Carnival would not accept our debit card. So we decided
to get a credit card just to save the hassle. Like Donna said, I will be
keeping an eye on the daily tally.
I dread to think what the end total will be tho'.

You can also make a cash deposit $300 p.p. for 7-night cruise at embarkation.

we took a 7 day cruise with carnival and never used a credit card. we opted for cash for our cards and when we told them that, they asked us how much we wanted to put down. they told us $300 is recommended but not necessary. when i went through the cash i had given them, i went to the purser's desk and they hooked my card up to my debit card with no problems. it took all of about a minute and a half.
