Default Just how much is enough?

Hi you all, I'm Tonya. I'm going on my first cruise to the Bahamas on the Celebration May 5th.
I KNOW this question has been beaten to death so I'll apologize in advance but I really need to know how much cash and/or credit I need. They (the carnival website) said they automatically charge 200 on your credit card and put it on that card they give you. Or you have to give them a minimum of 200 dollars. So the question is, how much money do I need to come up with to have a good time and not feel like I've been left out because I didn't plan better.
Thanks for letting me beat a dead horse.

The amount you will need varies depending upon if you drink alcohol, like to shop onboard, or drink soda. All your food is provided, and drinks such as iced tea, lemonaide and fruit juices in the grill area are also included. The amount placed on your sign and sail account also varies, depending upon how long your cruise it. I am guessing it's between 3-6 days because you are going on a Bahama's cruise. They will require at least $150 for shorter cruises. You can either pledge your major credit card for this amount or pay by cash/travelers checks. Then you present your sign and sail card everywhere on board for your purchases. The last time I took a 5 day cruise, they authorized $150 on my Visa account for my purchases, then at the end of the cruise they will itemize everything and charge one amount to that credit card. So, I used a Visa account I set aside for my onboard purchases only. I budgeted $100 per day of the cruise, so in this case $500. Now, if you like to shop and are looking for larger ticket items, then obviously you will need more. I am more of a window shopper, buying small suveniors and t-shirts. Onboard, I did purchase a few sodas and of course some yummy frozen drinks. Also, they love to take lots of pictures of you onboard, and those will cost you as well. To save some money you can take a small amount of your own soda or bottled water on board without any problem. My brother took a 12 pack of water in his luggage, and my sister walked on board with a 12 pack of pepsi. Also, if you plan to take any shore excursions, those will vary, usually between $25 and upwards to $100 so I budgeted them on top of the $100 day. And, don't forget about the tips which are about $10 pp per day. I ended up coming home with money in my pocket. Hope this helps you a bit. Have fun!

Hey thanks for the reply. That really did help. I don't drink alcohol so I'm safe there but I guzzle soda like no tomorrow. 100 dollars a day on top of excursions sounds safe to me. My cruise is a 5 day. So would you all recommend paying for the excursions in advance?

About $100 per day is a good general estimate. Pay in advance for excursions likely to sell out or that are must dos.
