Default need help booking excursions : San Juan Rainforest

Has anyone done the Rainforest hike on their own and not through the ship ? Do you know of a reliable tour we can book ? How long is the entire excursion from leaving port and back to the ship ?

Since this excursion is an all day one, I'd be safe and book through the cruiseline.

The ship doesn't leave San Juan until 11:00 pm, should I still book through them ? Since it's our first time I'm gearing towards using the ship's excursion but the price seems inflated. Please advise.

What time are you arriving in San Juan. If its 3:00, not enough time to do it before dark I would think??

Donna, Thanks for your response. We get into San Juan at 10:00 am and leave at 11:00 pm. If you think it's safer to book through the ship I'll go with that, however I was hoping someone would post some rave reviews about a reliable yet less expensive option. I'll check back. Thanks for your help. I'm also looking for something to do after the tour while still in San Juan but I'm a little leary, any advice on that ?

If you have the time, plan a trip up to El Morro, its in Old San Juan, easy to walk to or take the trolley, worth seeing.

Thanks Donna, sounds good for El Morro. As far as the ship or an independent tour to the rainforest any more advice? I haven't gotten feedback from anyone who has done an independent.

I just haven't heard of anyone doing it on their own. I know taking a taxi out there is way too much $....Just hang on, may-be someone can direct you to a tour that you can do without going through the ship.
