I posted this on another board also if this seems familiar...trying to hit all the bases.....
Let me preface my question first by saying I don't have anything against kids personally - lol.......
I'm taking a solo cruise in October out of Charleston, SC. I'm playing the odds that there won't be any or if so very few kids on the cruise due to school. Have you fellow cruisers found this time of year to be relatively kid free? It isn't really so much the kids themselves as is the parents, etc who let them run wild and misbehave.
I've researched adult cruises and they seem to have all but disappeared due to lack of participation or the market wasn't large enough to make them profitable.
What have been your experiences? Where did you depart?
The longer the cruise... the less likely there will be a lot of kids. These are also more expensive. Regardless you will always have kids on board. People take thier kids out of school for vacations.
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

I've gone from LA, Vancouver and Miami at various times of year while school was in session and found that on the tropical runs there was a diverse age range, but very few children. Along Alaskan route, there seemed to be more older folks -- this was in the fall right when school went back in, like you're doing. That seems like a lower point for family vacations.
Worst time we ever had, hands down, was a New Year's Eve trip down the Mexican Riviera. We wanted the experience of the new year party celebration on a ship, but we came home exhausted and disappointed. Certainly there are many parents who understand their jobs, and we shared a dinner table with two such lovely people and their very well-behaved daughters. However, for every one of those parents, *sigh* there seem to be ten who think that when they are on vacation, the WORLD is their babysitter. Since then I have merely avoided school holidays, it's simple enough. 8)
