This will be the first cruise for myself and my 13 year old son. Does anyone have a specific spreadsheet or checklist of things to make sure I take with us?

Here is a list I pulled off the internet..I pared it down a bit.. but, if we all brought all this, we would pay a fortune in baggage fees, but scan the list and see what is appropriate for the 2 of you, that makes sense.
The Essentials
airline tickets or e-ticket confirmation
cruise documents
passports and visas or proof of citizenship (if needed)
vaccination certificate (if required)
driver’s license and auto insurance card – in case you decide to rent in one of your port of call
medical insurance cards and medical history (especially if traveling alone)
copy of prescriptions and list of all medicines you are taking
another picture ID – if you don’t take driver’s license

3 copies of airline tickets, cruise tickets, passports/visas, itinerary – the first set to be left on your carry on bag, the second set to be left in your checked luggages, and the third set to be left with someone at home. Alternatively, you can scan the documents and email an electronic copy to yourself so that you can access them from any computer through the internet.
Plug adaptors and converter (if needed, ask the cruise line). Electric devices can handle multiple voltages make sure that your electric devices say 110-240V, 50-60Hz (dual voltage plug in).

The one that stands out to me is making copies of your air line tickets, cruise tickets and passports and ID. I know I always worry that I'll lose my passport or ticket and have to go through the hassle of verifying identities. I would think copies would help if anything was lost.
I have a ?.....what is depilatory? May-be I shouldn't ask....

Sounds silly, but we wished we had more clothes hangers on our first cruise. For our second, we took cheap dollar store hangers and left them in the room to make space in our suitcase for stuff we bought.
Also, if you have a room with a window, I suggest duct tape and clothes pins...we had trouble keeping the light out and it would have come in handy.
We also took WAY too many clothes...still struggling with that one
When we first started cruising we brought everything, just incase. Now with each cruise we bring less and less...we're now down to one very small carry-on and one suitcase each for a 10 day+ cruise. Our clothes are all the wrinkle free, light weight type, etc.
When we're going to cruise Alaska for example, we wear our jackets so we don't have to pack them. Same with heavier type shoes, etc. If you can wear it, you don't have to pack it.
On one cruise to Alaska, my sister and brother-in-law traveled with us and besides their luggage she brought a TRUNK...we had to have a seperate cab just to hold their luggage. She couldn't decide what to take so she brought everything they MIGHT need. They were shocked at how little luggage we had and we were shocked at how much they had!
The only MUST HAVE'S for us, have been...our travel documents, Personal I.D and Medications. Other than those items, if we happen to forget something, we've found we can easily buy it on or off the ship.
Try this: Just before you finally close your suitcase, take OUT one or two of those iffy items.
Remember when you buy on ship or even on shore items can be expensive

A couple of examples -a tube of toothpaste on the ship cost about $4, a cheap plastic comb on a Carribean island cost a dollar. Not really big expenditures but you might be able to get them a bit cheaper at home and have more fun dollars for cruise activities.

I saw this item in an email that would reinforce the buy-before-you sail strategy. One concern I would have is that I think that peroxide is considered to be dangerous and Homeland Security might give you a hassle. Small bottle probably okay. Also some people try to sneak booze on ship in peroxide bottle
because it is dark colored.
"a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide bought now would have saved me $25 for three ounces on cruise...even in ports! I let my insect bite get infected, no way I was paying that price!"
I wouldn't worry about forgetting something UNLESS it was medication, passports or I.D.
Otherwise, you can 'just in case' yourself into packing a trunk. In fact, we're trying to par down what we bring into just one 22" carry-on and a backpack (that's one 22" for my husband and one for myself.) Of course if you have children or special needs that won't work...but for us...less is going to be better!
We learned our lesson while touring China and the Philippines. We HAD to lug our own luggage on and off buses, trains, airplanes, ferries and ships...after awhile we felt like the early pioneers crossing the desert when they started dumping all along the trail the stuff they had once felt they couldn't live without. Boy, so did we. We actually came home with LESS than when we left, including gifts & souvenirs.
Extension cord (plugs are in short demand and with phones, IPads, camera batteries charging etc, it sucks not being able to charge things.
If you can, bring a small roll on with a case of water onboard. You'll finish the water (unless you want to pay $3.50 per bottle) and use the empty roll on for dirty clothes and stuff you buy.
Alarm clock or digital clock. Nothing like waking up at 3am and having not the slightest clue what time it is.
Really like your packing list!...most of the things suggested were small and easy to pack...and for my husband and I, would easily fit into a 22" suitcase or handbag carry-on. And like the comment that, 'these are reminders, not a list of everything you should take'...
One other suggestion is the 'quick dry' underwear. We take 3 pair of undies each...one to wear, one to dry, and one extra. They are sooooo easy to wash and they dry even in a humid climate. (worked great in the Philippines) No bulky cotton underwear...and the Philippines are the last place you want to wash and hang dry your undies!!!!

agree and know why? Because if you do not cruise alot take in all you can on shore excursions you will not regret it. Ships have gift shops and we all like a momento of the trip so yes....bring money or credit card as far as cruiseing goes. And enjoy it all if you can.
Even though packing for a cruise seems to be a troublesome job, it can be simplified by ensuring a few things. You can find numerous packing lists from websites; still it is who should decide the prime things you need. You can go through the following list that includes some stuff which I find inevitable for a cruise trip.
• sunglasses
• guidebooks and other port of call information
• foreign language phrase book or dictionary
• maps
• currency conversion chart
• plug adaptor and converter
• cell phone and charger
• home and email addresses of friends/relatives back home
• binoculars
• film camera and manual
• extra film (don't put undeveloped film in checked luggage)
• disposable underwater camera - for snorkeling or beach days
• extra memory cards for digital camera
• batteries for digital camera
• battery charger
• extension cord with multiple plug-ins etc
