new to cruising... question about shore excursions

so i've never been on a cruise before and my wife and i are going on a cruise to the bahama's soon. my question is... why do they charge you for a shopping tour and time on the beach?? Cant that be done by just wondering around and such? What do you get for that $65??

A taxi ride and maybe a beach chair.... you can do it on your own for MUCH LESS $$$ !

It depends on where you are .In certain places you are playing for security .

For many 1st timers, doing an excursion with the ship, offers a sense of security. More experienced cruisers, usually tend to book when they walk off the ship, and grab a tour with one of the tour guides on the pier.

Are you going to Nassau or Freeport?

the cost of the shore excursion you have to factor in things like, transportation, driver, tour guide, admission to the beach, and things that are included on the beach, Profit for the cruise line. If you do your homework, ask questions and have an idea of what you want to do and where you want to go you can do the Bahamas safely.
