Default Beverages Confusion

I will be cruising for the first time on a MSC Med cruise, sailing from Venice. I am reading all sorts of things about beverage packages etc but still confused. I've been on Caribbean cruises before with RCL and I know ice tea, water, and some juices are available to drink, but you need to purchase sodas and alcohol. is this the same for European cruises in the Mediterranean. I read somewhere that you need to purchase water, so what's the deal? Help please.

You only have to pay for bottled water.

It is like at home. Tap water is free, for bottled water you pay.

You pay inflated prices too, of course...if you bring a refillable thermos bottle, you can refill, and, go. The ships water tastes just as good
