How to get other excited in group cruising?
I really enjoy cruising with friends and family and I am trying to put together my first group cruise for January 2014. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get others interested and excited in joining us?

This is a suggestion that might get people interested, but, first, are any of them 1st time cruisers? do you have a line in mind?

Invite your family & friends to a cruise cocktail party! You could make a bon voyage invitiation on your computer, and invite your group, to a casual party, to chat about cruising.

See if the line your preferred line has any video's available, and get some cruise brochures for everyone to look at. You could gather a few line's brochures, for options as well.

Go to the Dollar store and see if they have any inexpensive travel decorations & any festive tropical glasses,to serve Caribbean drinks, to get people in the mood:) Do your research,so you may be able to answer questions like, but I get seasick..Bam, you'll have the answer;)

Call your cruise travel specialist, and let them know when you want to cruise,an they can steer you to the best values. Let them know that they can make payments on the cruise too.

Be enthusiastic, which we all know is not hard to do when we strart chatting about cruising, and I bet it's contageous. Let us know if you need any help, and let us know how you made out...good luck! January 21st, 2013 07:51 PM

I agree with Trip, but I would do it in reverse.

Contact your Cruise Specialist and let them know what you'd like to do. After you decide, with their help, what cruise you want to do, they should be able to provide you most of the items you'll want to put together a cruise or cocktail party. They will be able to create other things that can help you get the word out. For example, we put together an electronic cruise sheet where everyone can see the pictures, get the prices, and check out the itinerary. We've even put together a web page so everyone in the group can see who's going and any news about the cruise. We'll even attend the party, give a slide show or show a DVD, have door prizes, and answer all the many questions first time cruisers have. So contact your Cruise Specialist first as there are many things they can do to help you get the word out there and get everyone excited about the cruise.

Yes, everyone that I have invited so far have never cruised before and the reason behind my idea is that it has been 12 years since I have cruised. One 3-day cruise (age 29) was just a friend and the second (age 32) was a nice sized group (4 day) and I had so much fun with the larger group that I wanted to replicate that experience and (okay, this is the selfish part) get my husband excited about cruising.

Trip, the cocktail party is a GREAT idea, thank you! Trip & Pete, I have been working with a travel agent and I just didn't think to get her involved...but, that makes perfect sense since it will help her business too!

I am looking at a Western Caribbean Cruise on RCCL out of New Orleans in 1/2014 and a second cruise to Alaska on Celebrity in 2015.

Thank you so much for the ideas! I'M SO EXCITED

Pete, do you live ANYWHERE near Reno, NV? Because I would SO take you up on your offer!

We are doing a family cruise this year .Four members have never cruised before . I've given them links to various cruise sites to check out .

Be prepared for a lot of silly questions and misperceptions about cruise ships.

For example - we tried it, after a cousin suggested it, and then SHE backed out.

Some of the other cousins said "I don't to be stuck on a boat" (so they go to Jamaica all-inclusives - far more restrictive).

Another one said (half-jokingly?) - "I wouldn't trust my husband on a cruise." January 22nd, 2013 03:16 PM

Unfortunately, not. I live near Dulles Airport in No. Virginia by Washington, DC. But I do get free airfare as my son works for United, so who knows....

But as Paul pointed out, be ready for alot of silly questions from the newbies. If your agent is any good, they will tell you to have everyone contact them instead of you for all their questions. After all, that's their job and it's best to get the information directly from the agent as this will eliminate the possibility of any misunderstanding. Plus, it'll save you having to be the middle person.

Lakers Fan: I was kicking the idea of putting an email together, since I am using the cocktail party idea, I think I will incorporate the links in an email invite, especially for those that won't be able to make the party. thank you!
Paul: I think that will be my biggest disappointment (people initially interested and then backing out), but I know I will enjoy my vacation, I just wish they could FEEL my excitement!
Paul and Pete: In addition to my travel agent (who I definitely want people to meet because of the middle man situation you pointed out Pete), I will also be directing them to CruiseMates (or like Lakers Fan suggested, send them the links to CruiseMates...) I have learned so much from this group!

Darn it! But what a GREAT resource you have through your son! January 23rd, 2013 10:10 PM

Have your agent get a DVD from the cruise line you select showing all the great ports and put that on a TV while the party is going on. Hopefully, your agent has alot of pictures they can use to put together a presentation. Plus, they're able to get brochures and goodies from the cruise line to pass out.

If they can't produce, let us know.
