Default First Cruise, How can I enjoy myself.

Hello everyone. I want to start off by saying I know I can come off as a bit of a "douchebag" so please refrain from calling me that again. Me and my girlfriend are going on a cruise. The ship is named- Allure of the seas. Now- I personally grew up in a very wealthy family. My entire life my vacations have been very exclusive. Yacht trips in Asia and the African coast. Casino's in Monte Carlo, Private beaches and islands. I have never really been on the so called "Mid-class" Vacation. My friend who has been on one refers to cruises as a prison at sea, with lack of culture, good food. and full of ignorant people who are so arrogant that they believe they are enjoying themselves for the shear fact its the only thing they can afford. (I know hes an *******). For the sake of my lover, I want to enjoy myself. But I am a tad bit scared I am not going to. I hear the food is horrible and nothing near gourmet, and the activities are more directed at children rather than adults. Personally. I like to Drink and smoke while wasting my money at black jack or a intense poker game while away. I know cruises have casinos. But I hear they are nothing to compare to the ones in Monte Carlo. Or even Las Vegas. Also I like to wear suits. All the time. Haha, I am a huge suit fan and tuxedos at night. Is that appropriate attire for a cruise im scared a child will spill something on me. Next I like to be free, I am not one for following schedules. When I go away I like to go into town meet the locals for example when I was in Hati last year I went to a small town and played soccer with some children there and later had some drinks with some people. Soaked in the culture and lifestyle. My friend has told me cruises are nothing like that, The only "locals" there are trying to scam you out of money and the only traveling you can really do is with groups of people from the cruise. its like you never left America! He's american Im British haha. I am a bit worried im not going to enjoy myself. But in fact this is more a vacation for my girlfriend and I dont want to be a drag what activities on board would be suited for someone of my tastes

Dante, welcome to Cruisemates....you have given us alot to comment on. If your life style has allowed you to enjoy the finer things of life,[lucky you] then you might want to rethink the ship and look at Crystal, Seabourn, or the like. The Allure will give you a nice cruise, but, will not compare to your other luxe vacations for the most part.

You mentioned you don't want to follow a schedule, that's fine, you can dine in the alternative restaurants, but you will most likely be the only one in a suit, and a tuxedo in these venues, you would feel out of place. You are more apt to enjoy your dining experiences other then the main dining rooms. You could do this if you choose as well My Time Dining - Royal Caribbean International

As far as excursions you can check out www.portpromotions.com, get private tours to perhaps get a touch of the local color you seek. Getting to know the people/cultures in ports is fabulous. Just remember if you take anything other then the ships excursions, you better make it back to the ship on time, or adios...they will leave you in port.

Just get your mindset ready for this to be different then your other vacations, because it will be. Enjoy it for what it is, with the person you love, and be ready to roll with the new experiences you will encounter...maybe even a kid dropping ice cream on you..... You just might find you really enjoy it, as we do, in this community..bon voyage!

While you describe your previous vacations, I think if you let your hair down and let yourself enjoy Allure of the Seas. So far, it has been my favorite cruise to date...There are so many activities, although a lot are geared for kids/families, if you enjoy Dreamworks, you will see many of those characters during the cruise, with a few parades that you will want to see. There is also the ice and water shows and major production shows that are excellent. As for food, no, it is not gourmet, but you will not starve at all. Give some of the alternative restaurants a try, Chops is very good....

Before you go, look and see what this ship has to offer, I think if you let yourself, you will have a fantastic time.

Hi d... Dante

Yeah, so this isn't the vacation you would have chosen. Not sure why you didn't book a more lux trip. There are plenty of them, but you didn't.

Enjoying your vacation, as with anything in life, is a matter of attitude. If you go on your trip believing that your fellow cruisers are beneath you and nothing is up to your standards then you won't enjoy yourself. Take time to explore and do what you want and skip what you don't - except the safety drill.

That's going to be a problem on Allure of the Seas. No smoking is allowed in the cabins, or any of the indoor public room areas... including the casino.

Of course when you go on a cruise you don't have to enjoy yourself if you don't want to.

Chalk this up as a learning experience and see how us poor folks live.
Many of us do know how to have fun.

Not correct. The casino is broken into 2 areas, and one is smoking.

Ocean balconies you can smoke all you want.

And there are bars that permit smoking. On the Oasis, on the Promenade, Boleros permitted smoking.

Maybe Cunard or Holland might be a better fit for you but you say this vacation is more for your girlfriend. If her tastes differ from yours, she may enjoy the Allure. The Allure is a beautiful ship and there is plenty to do for adults as well as children. If this vacation is for her then "force" yourself to have a good time in whatever activity she does. If she is enjoying herself then I believe you will find it much easier to enjoy yourself. It's a great ship. Have fun.

Default Better yet Dante should charter a private yatch.

Sounds like Dante will only be happy with a private yatch. On a yatch he could have everything he wants just so he can pay for it just like Blowfeld in the Bond sagas. He also reminds me of a recent from an airline pilot who says I am getting a free cruise because I am a pilot, but I still want to share the cabin to save expenses.

Dou.....sorry, Dante: First, I personally am thrilled to know that you will be sailing on the Allure of the Seas as I will be on Carnival's Freedom. 2. Feel free to skip the safety drill. 3. Please tip your hat and wag your tuxedo's tails at my poor friends and relations at the slot machines in the casino as you pass by. 4. Ignore their giggles (they have no manners and wouldn't recognize class if it bit them). 5. Have a great and blessed day.

Well, if you are so wealthy that you dont know what normal life is like, then just stick with the yacht. Purpose of cruise is to have fun or relax (at least to me). It looks being filthy rich does not interfere with either of those, unless you are going to the ship to prove class. I would not call you a douchebag, but you are ignorant to compare casino on a freaking ship to las vegas. With the way you presented your status, your family house is probably bigger than the Allure. It's like comparing the Allure's fitness room to LA fitness club. You should not come here to insult people who are probably 10 times richer than you entire family.

I can't imagine anyone in the world having enough free time that they would even bother to write such a ridiculous, obviously completely fictional post.
