Transit time for back to back cruises. (and ship advice)

Hi. We are excitedly planning our first cruise(s) and are favoring a trans Atlantic repositioning on Celebrity Reflection Rome to Miami linking up with a Caribbean cruise on Oasis of the Sea.

The Reflection is scheduled to arrive at 6am on November 16 with Oasis scheduled to depart from Ft Lauderdale at 5pm on the same day. Even with an allowance of 3 hours disembark and 3 to board this would still give us a 5 hour window for the 30 miles or so between ports.

Are ships often late berthing?

As we are Australian will we wait longer for customs, immigration checks etc?

What will be the quickest (without spending a fortune) way to get from the terminal in Miami to the one on Ft Lauderdale?

we would really like to cruise on these two ships but also have a backup plan (also a bit cheaper) of Rome Miami on Costa Luminosa 6th -23rd Nov linking up with Carnival Glory on the 24th giving us a day to spare.

Would appreciate feed back on my plans and on the ships in question.
Cheers.

95% of the time your plan to dock in Miami and catch a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale the same day will work. Yes, ships can arrive late (mechanical issues, medical issues, storms ...) and yes, being an non-US citizen on a ship likely to be filled with non-US citizens you may be stuck in customs for a while. Also, it takes time to clear a ship before you can begin disembarking.

So, I would suggest a slight change in plans that will still give you everything you are looking for. The first leg of your back to back (B2B) is fine. But instead of the Oasis on November 16, I recommend the Allure on November 17. The Allure is just like the Oasis, except one year younger. So you will get the same experience except on a new ship with an overnight in Fort Lauderdale to rest up a bit and not feel so rushed.

Here is a link to the Royal Caribbean website for the November 17 cruise on the Allure of the Seas (OTS) ...

And I would recommend one of these two hotels (the picture were take from the deck of a cruise ship docked in Fort Lauderdale ...

That is the Oasis OTS on the left and the Carnival Freedom on the right. The Hilton is just to the left of the bridge and the Hyatt is just off of the picture to the right.
