My hubby and I are going on our first cruise in December .

We are going to the Caribbean . Should we be taking umbrellas ?

Welcome to the board. Well, I've sailed the Caribbean in November and did not get rained on. You can catch a shower anytime though. I would not worry about it overly much. I think you'll enjoy yourself.

I have been on more than a dozen Caribbean cruises and have never needed an umbrella.

Even if you do encounter some rain, it shouldn't ruin a whole day, I wouldn't bother with an umbrella either....

We usually take an umbrella. The reason is: Each time we've taken one we haven't needed it and the one or two times we didn't we sure could have used it.

A small, compact umbrella is a good thing to throw in the suitcase. Ponchos are even better. They take little space and have almost no weight. On most cruise lines they will sell ponchos, at the gangway, when it is raining in the port. I think the cost is somewhere between $3 and $5. You can buy them at a sporting goods store for .99 cents.

Take care,

Only if you want to. It is not unusual for it to rain in December in the Caribbean. It's a warm rain and as soon as it stops you will dry very quickly. Humidity is very high. We've walked around in the rain and it's not bad at all. It's up to you.

If it does rain its a sun shower. I say just enjoy it as it cools you off. It's like mister with throw in a light breeze and you have natural AC!!! Enjoy

Take the umbrella, the small travel size... does not talke up much real estate...I have been part of all day soakers, and witnessed one all day blustery one, from a hospital window in St Thomas, and thought, all the poor tourists.

Trip, with her book & tea!

I've only been rained on once. Inspired by our then 4 year old, we danced in the rain.
