Best Ship from NY

My huspand and I are thinking about cruising from NY next june. I have considered Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Breakaway, Carnival splendor, Celebrity summit and Explorer of the seas. We have also booked oasis from Miami in december.

Which ship do you recommend for active couple in their 40s without kids? We are from Finland.Things that are important to us:

1. Jogging Track, Gym and Fitness classes
2. Good food, we propably wont be eating specialty restaurants more than maybe couple of times
3. Comfortable stateroom and bed
4. Pools and good beaches in destinations
5. great desserts

Not so important:

1. Shows
2. Specialty restaurants
3. Shore excursions
4.Spa
5. Clubs, bars, beverages, casino

Can someone please help us to choose? :)

We've been on all these cruise lines and have sailed out of NY on several occasions. The one thing we've learned in our 46 cruises on 11 cruise lines is that there is something out there for everyone, but what one person loves, another will hate. You'll get as many answers to your question as there are people because everyone is different and what they think is the best, you may not like and vice versa. Not only is each cruise line different, but each ship within that same cruise line can be different. And even each ship can be different at different times because they go through refurbishment and crew changes. Some people love big ships, while others prefer smaller ones. Some like the old-school style, while some like the more modern designs.

And as we all know, food is very subjective! Some people will swear the food on one cruise line is outstanding while others will say it's the worst food on the high seas.

Opinions are like bellybuttons and everyone has one!

With all that said, it really depends on what you're looking for in a cruise, your lifestyle, and your budget. And that's the fun thing about cruising is trying them all until you find what's best for you.

Personally, I'd like to try the new NCL Breakaway for the newness of the ship, but we prefer Celebrity for the food. RCCL has alot of amenities and Carnival attracts a younger crowd. Princess, in my opinion, is better than RCCL & Carnival, but I know others will disagree.

As for beaches, NY is quite a distance from the Caribbean and results in a longer cruise, so if you want to go there, it would be better to sail out of Florida.

Lots of options.

For what you describe as your preferences, I would probably recommend Summit. Although I am a little reluctant to recommend an older Celebrity ship.

Otherwise I would say Breakaway because its the newest (and I want to see it), but it also focuses heavily on specialty restaurants and entertainment.

For food & comfort it seems Celebrity outdoes Carnival or NCL, so Celebrity. I would like to see you on the Solstice class, however.

Also, I would recommend Explorer but since you are going on Oasis later that would make the explorer cruise less memorable for you after the fact. (if that makes any sense, it does to me, but I don't know if it does to you).

Are there any Holland America, Princess or (even better) Oceania or Azamara cruises going out then?

Holland America has two ships sailing out of Boston in June. You could up there by train very easily. And you sail to Quebec - which might be a change of pace for you.

Thanks so much for your opinions. We are not considering Boston because we really want to cruise from Ny. And our budget is also suitable for these cruise lines.

What about the destinations? Would you recommend Bahamas, Bermuda or Carnival Splendors Caribbean destinations? It is so hard to make up our minds and just make the reservation :D

I would propably already booked Norwegian Breakaway but then I read the reviews that said that Jogging track there is not very good. And that is very important to us both. But i am wondering if we could run in bermuda?

Summit also seems great but is it too boring and small for us after oasis? I am also wondering if celebritys dress code is too much for us because we are kind of casual people. And we also dont have enormous budget so is there only expensive wines etc.?

Carnival seems to have very low price since that cruise is longest we are considering. But is the Splendor too partyparty for us?

Gem has the lowest price and seems nice ship but we dont like too many children around so I have heard that gem has alot of small children.

And with explorer i am wondering is it too similar than oasis which we are going to experience already in december?

I would be grateful if someone would comment these things I am wondering. And sorry bad english! :)

# 1 jogging: Carnival U may find a complete deck that U may be able to jog around.
# 2 food: from 1 to 10 i will give an 8.
# 3 stateroom beds: hard to say, some good ...some not so good.
# 4 beaches: the Caribbean...grand Cayman...San Juan...Aruba...St Thomas...St Maarten & many more.
# 5 Desserts: very good on Carnival, but for me Princess is the best.
To cruise is to enjoy life, so go & enjoy. :-P

I was going to recommend the Breakaway, but then I saw your comment about entertainment and food and thought the ship would probably be wasted on you. :). It is more pricey than some, so why spend the extra money if those things are not important.

But, you might want to consider it just for Bermuda! In port for 3 days. Lots to do there. We were there last summer and loved it. Not at all like a typical Bahamian or Caribbean port. The port area itself is very nice with lots of nice shopping and things to do. You could probably jog in the port area or just outside. Or, I believe there is an extensive trail ( old railroad ) for biking and jogging which might be a good possibility. The beaches are wonderful. Easy transportation by ferry and bus. No need to book tours, unless something of special interest.

I was on a Princess cruise and the fitness classes and health lectures were OUTSTANDING.
