Hi John,
Welcome to Cruisemates and the world of cruising...I would highly suggest talking to a good cruise travel agent and they can steer you to some singles cruises, plus leaving from the East coast, which is limited. In the near future we should see more ships sailing from NJ....When do you want to cruise?

I agree with Donna - find a reputable agent, preferably a Cruise Specialist, to work with. Their expertise can be invaluable in helping you find the best cruise for you.

Keep in mind when sailing out of NY that your first 1-1/2 days and your last 1-1/2 days will be sailing to and from the Bahamas. Unless you want to go for a longer time, you're going to be limited to the Bahamas and can't get to the Caribbean since it's too far away. The Bahamas won't be as warm and your choices are limited, unless of course you prefer to cruise to Canada/New England.

As for 'good price', that's a relative term. What's good for one is not necessarily good for another. It also depends on the 'single supplement' and whether a good one is being offered or not. And lastly, it'll also be based on the type of cabin you want.

Just some reasons why you need to discuss your plans with an agent who will help you find the best cruise based on your requirements, lifestyle, and budget.

Pete

I recommend that you seek out a good singles -specialty agency that forms group cruises. They do roommate matching if that is what you want, or they also just have groups of people you can hang out with if you are traveling solo.

Here is why I recommend this - cruising solo is often not as social as some cruise novices expect. Imagine booking into a large hotel as a single - what are the possibilities you will find all the other single people - not guaranteed. So, you may end up spending more time alone than you ever imagined.

By the way Halloween is the busiest time of year for Singles cruises. I suggest you google "singles cruises" and add "New York" "October" or any other criteria you want. You will find them easily enough.

By the way, Carnival just announced a bunch of really good single rates!

Also, I just booked a single on the brand new MSC Divina out of Miami - the single rates were great!!

Check with singles groups for singles cruises. It would be a group getting on a ship.
