Single/Hookup?

I am going on my first cruise in Dec 2014.
I will be traveling by myself, and wonder if the stories I've heard about
"one night stands" aboard cruises are true.

I am Not looking to hookup, but can't help but laugh about the thought of a real life "Love Boat" !

aerospace April 17th, 2014 05:21 PM

It happens occasionally but don't count on it. Usually to blame are the unlimited drink packages and people trying to get their moneys worth.

Most lines do have a daily single social hour in a bar if your looking to meet someone to hang with.

Aerogirl April 18th, 2014 09:04 PM

I'm sure there's plenty of hooking up going on.

juanita.juchau April 20th, 2014 07:14 PM

I really wanted it to be true on my last cruise but even at the singles party there weren't any options. Mostly married couples and families on board. I think a ship board romance would be exciting.

aerospace April 20th, 2014 08:14 PM

Go on a hosted singles cruise, or just arrange to be on the same ship when one is going on. It can be way cheaper and you will still be on a ship with lots of singles, just not invited to thier private parties. Over Halloween there were ~650 singles on my cruise :)

Aerogirl April 24th, 2014 07:45 PM

On my upcoming cruise we have a dozen single people going. You need to go to FB type in the ship and date and join the group, I'm sure there's plenty of singles going.

Also visit vacationstogo.com...click on single cruise. we have so much fun...going on the Oct 2014 cruise out of san juan.

As mentioned - it does happen, however, I always caution singles NOT to expect a "love boat" atmosphere on a cruise ship any more than you would find one at Disneyland. These days cruise ships are very much family vacations, not singles nightclubs.

What ship is the OP sailing upon?

Go on a 3 day Carnival to the bahamas over spring break and will have to amend that statement.

Well - that is why I asked what ship he was on. But I just went solo on Carnival Breeze and I did not meet another single during the entire trip (but it was Thanksgiving week)

My upcoming Breeze cruise we have about 14 single cruisers on our roll call not including Ray & Lisa. On Liberty this past December we had three singles just at our table. Thinking it just depends on the sailing.

I will be sailing on the Oasis of the Seas ( 7 day Western Caribbean)
leaving on December 6.

This is not my first time aboard a ship as I am an ex U.S. Navy officer, just my first civilian cruise.

My original post was meant to be "tongue in cheek", but now I am curious...

Board in uniform, you will get lots of attention ;)

AG880 May 5th, 2014 01:12 AM

Like a previous poster said, find a sailing that is also a singles cruise. You can book with the singles cruise company or book it yourself.

Most of the singles cruises use name beads to identify their members. Show up at a bar or nightclub and look for name beads. It couldn't be any easier. The phrase shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind. :)

Even if you're not looking to hookup, a singles cruise is a great way to travel solo but still feel part of a group and not like some weird outsider like you might on a normal cruise.

Remember on typical cruise you will be lucky to have 1-2% solo/single cruisers. Also, crew is not allowed to fratranize with guests. Was sailing solo on Celebrity several yrs. ago with singles dining table in MDR,all women. Our waiter called up all the ladies except me, asking to come to their cabin for sex. He even put it this way. He gave me that look and I had given him a dirty look. He also knew me from previous cruises. Girls turned him in. Anyhow. next nite MaitreD comes by, says guy had to go home for a family emergency. They had put him off ship at that days port. He had been with Celebrity 9 yrs. One of their best waiters too. Vacations to Go,com does excellent singles cruises monthly, most lines too.

Just remember, a large cruise ship with 2,000 plus passengers and assuming 2% are single equates to 40 singles on the ship.
Now, assume half are over 40 years of age, that leaves approximately 20 singles onboard the ship in the arena you may be interested.

Men rent a black tux for formal nights and woman wear a little black cocktail dress.
Acting with manners and not getting sloppy drunk is the upmost importance.

Get as many FREE photo's as possible posted on the photography boards.

When you board the ship, make sure you hold your left hand up showing no wedding ring! Sounds tacky, but you get your point across to everyone.
This is free advertising.

When your pic's start getting posted on the photo boards, move them to an eye level in one location & move other single pictures you find attractive to the same location on the boards, they will see you sooner or later. If you see a mom & daughter together or father & son together, this may not be your prime encounter. if you see two men or two woman PARTYING together in several pic's, then you need to investigate, get my drift.

Also, speak to the head maitre d when you 1st board the ship.
$20 may find your way to a preferred dining table, seating changes can be made, providing you take care of business upon boarding.

The night club after 10 PM should be a pit stop, the key is to go out and dance! If you are serious about having fun, learn to salsa the steps are easy and dancing is seductive.

The gym is also a neutral location to encounter select singles, providing you are in fairly decent shape, it is up to you to formally introduce yourself and remember names, even upon passing through out the cruise, always smile & pay a compliment addressing them by first name.

Point being, if you have 5 or 6 singles you have an interest in meeting, it is up to you to close the deal. All cruises are love boats, providing you have your own cabin.

Celebrity cruise is not the place for singles

Celebrity cruise is not the place for singles. I recently traveled on a celebrity cruise ship and had open seating dining. the maÓtre d' would not give me anything but a table by myself and even said from the first night I'm sorry all the tables are previously booked or people already have reservations together which was hogwash because many people met up in line and wanted to eat together I can't understand why Celebrity would single out a beautiful single women and make her eat by herself. Humiliating to say the least and made to feel like an outcast. They also seated you in the very rear of the dining room in the least desirable section so you would not be noticed .:(
I saw many single women eating by themselves at their own tables and I'm sure that they were told the exact same thing that I was no one wants to eat with a single person basically is what they were portraying very disappointing they need to accommodate singles better than that.

Secondly celebrity cruise lines offers a meet up for singles at a bar but unfortunately there are other people at the bar besides the singles people and it isn't for singles only maybe they should think of using the bar quasar which is more private for such an occasion I found many men at the bar and married people at the bar but very few singles most singles went to the bar took one look and left because they realized it wasn't really a singles party that Celebrity offered I was extremely disappointed and felt I had wasted my money because I had paid for a double occupancy balcony cabin

Now I know!

Iíll be booking a Celebrity cruise! Did they typically seat the single ladies off to any particular side, or in a specific dining room?

Never mind. I still have an appreciation for the hunt!

Iím sorry you had that experience, tikigal. Us guys arenít typically very good at it and Celebrity likely gave up due to their own discouragement.

Keep at it. One of us will step up eventually.
