Default Shore excursions

So I want to take a Caribbean cruise next year and as I am looking at them I am also looking at Shore excursions.

So I was wondering if anyone has gone cave tubing, river tubing or zip lining? If so what did you think? Worth the price? How in shape do you need to be?

Also if you have a Shore excursions that you just loved that wasn't one of those let me know please.

For any Shore excursions i book i would like to stay under a hundred but am will to go higher if it looks really great.

Thanks in advance.

I've done the zip lining excursion and loved it...There was some walking involved, nothing terrible...Did that in Jamaica, at the same location, they also had river tubing....Have heard good things about cave tubing in Belize, never done that yet.

You might check out independent providers, groups like Viator and Shore Trips. Your travel agent can help you.

I am always amazed at what information I can get just by checking the excursion listings for specific islands on this site. The information is very candid and names names like the name of a credible ziplinning excursion on Belize and other information. The information is based on personal experience
and can be very helpful.

Knowing where you are going and what you are looking to do at each port would probably help you get some answers. Almost all ports of call have some version of what you are asking about and I am sure experiences vary!

Thanks guys. I've now booked my cruise and have to figure out what i want to do.

My Ports are:
Cozumel, Mexico
Mahogany Bay, Roatan Island, Honduras
Belize City, Belize
Costa Maya, Mexico

I know that I want to do cave Tubing in Belize, as long as its open. I read on one site that it might not be in feb.

Zip-lining looks fun but scary. I would hate to book it and then back out or something.

The others I'm still looking into.

And thanks green_rd. I had heard of Shore Trips but not Viator so that gives me another site to look at.

If anyone did something they loved feel free to tell me, I'm open to looking into anything to see if it interests me.

How about swimming with the Dolphins in Cozumel?? Tons of fun, a bit on the pricey side, but when can you do something so awesome...

I've looked at that and I think its something I would like to do. Not sure if in Cozumel. They have it at other ports so i'll have to figure out which port I can fit it. So that it might not stop me from doing something else I want.

As Mr. Green stated, I highly suggest looking at booking through a reputable independent shore excursion company like Shore Trips. You'll find the price may be the same, but it'll always be alot less crowded and less regimented, so it'll be more intimate and alot more enjoyable.

Talk to your agent and hopefully they are a Cruise Specialist who's been there done that and can offer some first-hand knowledge about what to do and how to do it cheaper and easier.

I would definitely NOT suggest booking the shore excursions through the cruise line; too expensive, too crowded, and too regimented, so you end up with a much less enjoyable experience.

We did the same trip last Dec (Roatan, Belize, Cozumel) and took a Cave Tubing + Zip Line trip while in Belize and it was one of the most fun and exciting things we've ever done. The tubing involves a bit of walking through the forest but the guides were informing, entertaining and helpful. The water was nice and cool and felt really nice. At no times did we feel worried or safety-conscious.
After the tubing we had an authentic local lunch. The food was fantastic as is the local beer.
The zipline part was very adventurous and while the first run was a but nervous, we found ourselves hustling to the next waypoint/jump.
I highly encourage folks to try this if given the chance.

I have a client who did the cave tubing/zip lining adventure in Belize through Carnival and didn't like it, so they decided to do it through Shore Trips the next time and said it was MUCH better. We're looking forward to doing this excursion some time, since we've heard so much about it from many clients who loved it, but after what I've heard comparing the two, we will definitely NOT do this particular excursion through the cruise line, that's for sure.

Thanks guys.

I know that I am doing in some of my ports now. Only one is booked but two others i am almost sure about.

My Ports are:
Cozumel, Mexico: Blue Water SeaTrek Helmet Diving & Snorkel booked through carnival
Mahogany Bay, Roatan Island, Honduras: looking into Parasailing
Belize City, Belize: looking into cave tubing and zoo
Costa Maya, Mexico

I decided not to do the ziplining. We had a small one at our local fair and i've decided I dont want to do it again. For Costa Maya I wanted to go and see the dolphins. I had hoped to book through the dolphin site itself but it turns out if you travel on Carnival they wont let you. So the price just went up $40. unless I can find it through someone else for less.

I've had that problem booking without going through the cruiseline at different ports...They kind of get you there....Hope you can find an independent provider, but if not, you may have to bit the bullet and book through Carnival...
