Default Any-time seating dinners on Alaskan cruise

Hi, everyone! We're cruising to Alaska in July with our kids (both 7) and are thinking of doing the anytime seating for dinners - does anyone have any experience with this? Pros? Cons? Suggestions would be so appreciated

Different lines to ATD differently but usually you show up during the hours posted
You can share a table with others or eat with just your family

We did this last summer. I think it is a good idea, especially in Alaska when you might want to be taking in the view rather than getting ready for dinner.

We had an assigned time on embarkation day because of the muster drill. The first couple of nights each cruise there seems to a tendency for many anytime diners to show up at the same time creating a bit of a log jam. It usually spreads out in a couple of days. On some lines you can also make reservations within ATD hours.
