I'm a solo traveller and new to cruising and wondering how you meet people. Would be nice to know who else is single who could share the experience solely for companionship. How do you go about meeting people? Are there any websites for solo travellers to get to know one another?
The best way to meet people is just to be friendly. I've struck up a conversation with someone near me on the check-in line, and then run into the same people several times on board the ship. Of course, this is easier if you're not on one of the mega-ships!
I also always ask for a large table in the MDR, and enjoy conversing with whomever I share a meal with. At a meal taken in the buffet, I will ask someone at a partly-empty table if they mind sharing; no one ever does, and I've met some interesting folks that way. Activities and shore excursions also offer opportunities to meet someone, and the ships usually offer some sort of "singles and solos" get-togethers. I find those the least successful in meeting interesting people, but you never know. I happen to like contests and games, and have made some good friends there. Twice I have met a woman while playing trivia, with whom I have later paired for a cruise.
Basically, go expecting to meet people, some of whom you will temporarily share experiences with and possibly some you will become longer-term friends with. It's almost hard not to do so, unless you make an effort to keep to yourself.
themorphs! It is really nice you are a solo traveler. I am also a traveler and traveling is my passion. By the way, it is such a great plan you want to take a solo cruise tour. I am sure you will enjoy lot of fun there. I must say that you must share your experience here.
