Default First Cruise is in 3 weeks!

Carnival Splendor Western Caribbean ...in THREE weeks!

OK here goes:

It's not required you attend the formal dinner, is it?

Drink voucher seems high. How much are beer and wine if you pay each time?

Is shampoo, body gel, etc complimentary? Do the cabins have hair dryers?

What should we do first?

Thanks!

Welcome to Cruisemates and the world of cruising....

No, you don't have to eat in the main dinning room, there are other alternative food venues to choose from, some for a charge, other not.

First thing you should do when you board, is find you cabin and drop off your carry on luggage, then grab some lunch and explore the ship.

I am not a big drinker, so drink packages just aren't worth it, you will have to judge that for yourself....How about soda package, again, if you will use it, then a decent value, otherwise, just purchase what you want and save some bucks.

There is shampoo and there are hair dryers in each cabin...while the hair dryers aren't too powerful, as long as you don't have super long thick hair, should do the trick.

Feel free to ask any more questions that you have...

Ok two more....

Tipping....who, how much, etc.

We booked one excursion. Generally, what can we expect at the other locations the ships docks? Too touristy, interesting, gotta catch a cab to see stuff?

Hi, and welcome to the forums!
Let us know your itinerary, so we can tell you about what's interesting to do in your ports. If I were you, I would bring your own hair dryer...doesn't take up that much real estate in your luggage, and you know it will work well.

If you check on your cruise website, you will see tipping guidelines...if some of the fre go the extra mile for you, you can adjust the tipping.

Once you board the ship, enjoy lunch on the lido deck, and explore the ship a bit, as the cabins don't usually open till around 2:00.

Most cruise line now add the daily gratuity charge to your sign & sail account
beverages & other ship purchases the tip will be added to the bill usually 15 -18%

list the ports or do some research what is at the port & what interests you

You do not need to attend the "Elegant Evening" dinner but Carnival has a relaxed dress code, Your Time Dining (open seating) so you can dine with just a pair of pants and a collared shirt.

You basically have to drink 8 drinks per day to break even on the drink package. A standard mixed drink will run about $8 with beer in the $4 to $5 range.

Shampoo and body wash/gel will be in your stateroom. There are dispensers in the shower and your cabin steward should leave a bar soap for the bathroom sink. You can ask them for additional bars if you prefer that in the shower.

Cabins don't open up until around 1:30 p.m.. If you board before that then just take your carry-on with you up to the lido deck and have a buffet lunch and a drink. You can then kick back and wait until the cabins open up or explore the ship.

Each day, including boarding day, you will have the daily "Funtimes" in your cabin that will list all of the activities, dining and bar times for the day. You will have a lot of choices of what you want to do or you can just kick back in lounge chair and a drink and enjoy the sun. It's up to you.

Enjoy the cruise,
Mike

Thanks for the information! It's been very helpful! Here are some more questions:

Will I need an adapter for our phone chargers, etc.?

How do you buy chips in the casinos and do you put them on the sail and sign card? And what table games does the Splendor have?

Our ports our Cozumel, Belize, where we booked an excursion to Ambergris Caye on Your Own, Mahogany Bay Honduras and Georgetown, Grand Cayman.

Less than two weeks now and we have snow with 20 degrees
