Southwest flight release dates

Not sure of the best forum to put this in .... I'm sure someone will move it if I get it wrong.

You can only book Southwest for flights through to Mar 9. I need to book our flight for March 13.

If someone happens to see that the next block of flights is released ..... Please let me know!

Do you fly SW because you find lower rates? Last year, SW, even with free baggage was more then Spirit Air, charging me for everything....Another carrier might be more cost effective, to check out, before you book.

It's interesting you ask the question about why we fly SW. HIstorically, the rates have been amazing! But when we booked this FOTS trip .... we could not get a deal on a flight. Our best deal BUF to FLL was about $1800. We've previously done the same leg for as low as $600. I think SW wants us to now finance all their acquisitions of other airlines!

It got me looking around which is why we booked with Direct Air. Our flight was half of what SW was charging ... but we had to fly in a day early and fly out a day late (not a bad thing given IRENE). But car rental was a major hastle because Direct Air flies into Lakeland which is a regional airport.

I do love SW and think the staff are amazing, and we've never had a bad/late flight from them. But moving forward they will not be the only airline I check.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think you can book a flight more than six months out on Southwest. So, that means you probably won't be able to book your flight until around Oct. 13th.

Southwest will release the next block of flights September 5th, i think it will be for flights up til April 9th.
