How many decks are used?
Curious about how many decks of cards are used for the blackjack tables?
Also if they use the automatic shufflers?

Can't answer your two questions but I would like to add that they only use NEW cards on the first day of the cruise. They DO NOT bring in new cards until the next cruise.

Re: How many decks are used?
The cruise lines use 8 decks, and though some tried the automatic shufflers they abandoned them because of high maintenance issues.

Some ships do offer one table of single deck blackjack I believe, but if I'm not mistaken it's a face up version with different rules.

Thanks for the info. I know enough to be dangerous playing in the casino, but with 8 decks, the cards may be stacked against me!!! (Pun intended! <BG>)

Re: How many decks are used?
I just cruised with Royal Caribbean last month and it was as Kuki described for both single deck and multiple deck shoes.

Re: Re: How many decks are used?
I have been on 20+ cruises, majority Royal Carribean. Almost every ship I have been on uses 6 decks, not 8. Most also have a single deck table as well. This past April was on Mariner of the Seas and they did not use the Automatic Shufflers, nor did they on the Sovereign in October. I agree with above poster that many ships are getting rid of the auto shufflers. Mariner had one 3 card poker table.

Just came off the Island Princess and they used 8 decks. No tables had less. there was a face up table and also a Spanish 21 table but they used 8 decks as well.

Re: How many decks are used?
Are you sure they used 8 and not 6? When the dealers places the cut card in 6 decks its about all he can grasp with one hand unless he has giant hands. They usually place the cut card at the nuckle of the first finger to get the pen they want, and we hate.

Id expect 8 decks would be a little tough for the girl dealers.

8 decks on PCL CB.

Most likely same on all other CCL owned lines, and I venture to say RCCL as well now looking back.

Tough row to hoe for an Advantage Player.
