Default PokerPro now on Carnival Fascination

I just got off the Fascination today and they removed the texas hold em table with a dealer. Instead they have a dealerless machine called pokerpro which deals the game electronically. The table has also been moved to inside the casino. The rake is very steep at 10% of the pot up to $6, which is double the normal casino rake. The limit was $3/$6, this was lowered from $4/$8 the last time I was on the cruise.

Also had PokerPro on Princess with the 10% rake. They also had those hideous Continous Shuffe Machines on all the BJ tables - again not good for the player. The Carnival Line also has both.

The best, player-friendly casinos in MHO are on the NCL.....Jim H

Carnival has made a corporate decision to go with the 'poker pro' tables rather than 'live' poker games.

This is still in 'test' mode and if you contact them with your feedback, it may convince them to change that decision.

Cruise lines have a difficult time offering 'live' poker onboard for various reasons.

One, they cannot justify the rake needed to equal other table games. Remember... poker is player VS player and not player VS house as other table games.

Two, the 'real estate' onboard a ship is limited. In order to be profitable, they need to set up a room for at least 10 tables running. This would be impossible for them to do.

Three, their dealers are not experienced in dealing poker. With split pots, rakes, tips and the various rules of play including proper dealing of the cards, they have difficulty in managing a poker table. Also, no cameras to oversee the table.

I know in Nov of 2008 there is a POKER CRUISE scheduled. But I cannot say too much because I do not want to break the rules here regarding advertising. If you e-mail me personally, I will gladly speak to you about it.

Otherwise, my suggestion is to do a search online for 'poker cruises' and check out the various offerings.

I hope that helps.

when I sailed the Fascination last year they had 2 tables going 3/6, 5/10 with a dealer. These tables did not open until around 8pm. On the RCI Majesty they had the pokerpro table. Although the table sat there all day, no one played until the tournys started at 9pm
