Carnival has made a corporate decision to go with the 'poker pro' tables rather than 'live' poker games.
This is still in 'test' mode and if you contact them with your feedback, it may convince them to change that decision.
Cruise lines have a difficult time offering 'live' poker onboard for various reasons.
One, they cannot justify the rake needed to equal other table games. Remember... poker is player VS player and not player VS house as other table games.
Two, the 'real estate' onboard a ship is limited. In order to be profitable, they need to set up a room for at least 10 tables running. This would be impossible for them to do.
Three, their dealers are not experienced in dealing poker. With split pots, rakes, tips and the various rules of play including proper dealing of the cards, they have difficulty in managing a poker table. Also, no cameras to oversee the table.
I know in Nov of 2008 there is a POKER CRUISE scheduled. But I cannot say too much because I do not want to break the rules here regarding advertising. If you e-mail me personally, I will gladly speak to you about it.
Otherwise, my suggestion is to do a search online for 'poker cruises' and check out the various offerings.
I hope that helps.
