Just scheduled another cruise. This one is on the MS Noordam of the Holland America line. The sailing date is May 7th, 2001 and leaving from Rome with stops in Greece and ending in Istanbul. Any one been on this one before, or, traveling these same dates. Thanks.
Have not been on that particular cruise but have sailed the Noordam three times. Holland America is getting rid of this ship in 2001/2 and thank god, it's done it's time. It needs a complete retrofit; it's old and not particularly attractive. If you can overlook the decor, you'll have a great time, I'm sure.
We did an RSVP cruise in 1999 that went through the Greek Isles, roundtrip from Athens. It was not on the Noordam but I was on the Noordam in 1996 in Alaska. I thought the Noordam was a great ship - not too large, great service, understated elegance, and lots of deck space. The only odd thing was that there is a noticable vibration up in the Crow's Nest lounge even when the ship is docked! It's kind of like an up and down vibration that is quite noticable at times. Other than that, I'd sail her again in a heartbeat. I found the service to be excellent and was the only time that staff members ever remembered my name!
If you'd like any info on Greece, let me know via e-mail what your ports are and I'll tell what what I can.
