Any other gay folk on the R6, sailing out of Venice October 11, 2001? We arrive Venice Oct 9 and are also extending in Barcelona.
Granted, most of the shore time will be in Italy & I know what that means - does anyone know of gay-friendly restaurants/shops/places of interest in the smaller cities?
David,
I'm not sure which cities you are visiting, but it is unlikely that you will find any gay bars in the smaller cities. Rome, Florence and Milan have several bars and Milan has it's share of baths. Venice has no gay bars that I know of. Italy is still a pretty closeted country. Most of the men you meet in a bar probably still live at home with mom and dad. You will be astonished at the way Italian men cruise each other, but they are typically straight, and are just sizing you up, noting which brand of italian loafer you are wearing, or the cut of your jacket. Italy is a wonderful country, with very friendly people. Try a few words of Italian, be friendly, and they will follow suit.
Have fun
