My partner and I are flying into Venice on Saturday April 24th for a inaugural cruise on the Westerdam. We are hoping to find other gay men and women aboard for fun and frienship although I have received no responses to prior posts so I guess we will just have to "wing it".
I am wondering if anyone might have an idea what the best and most cost effective way to get from Marco Polo airpor to the cruise ship terminal as transfers were not offered to us since we bought airfare on our own.
Any helpful hints would be welcome or any ideas of gay friendly spots (bars/restaurants) in Venice as we will be there several days after the cruise.
Though I haven't cruised out of Venice, I've visited the city twice and I know the locations of the airport and cruise terminal. The airport is on the mainland, 6 miles north of the island city. I've found the best way to get to Venice is by the boat. The Alilaguna Motocraft departs just outside the baggage claim area and stops at Murano and Lido before docking at St.Marks (San Marco) Square. Change boats at San Marco catch the blue line over to the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal. The process could take 1-2 hours.
If you're short on time, you may inquire about a bus or taxi that can take you across the causway to the city entrance... from there, I'm not certain how to get to the cruise port.
We had little luck finding much of a night life... And I never did find a "gay" bar. We did have fun hanging out in Venice at a small but lively place called the Shark Bar. It's off the beaten path, but obviously walkable from anywhere on Venice. Get a map and ask for the location.
Yes, we do appreciate this information. Thanks very much.
We like to use public transportation as much as possible and really won't be in a terrible rush to get to the ship so I like the idea of the watercraft and boat - besides sounds like it's the least inexpensive way to go.
I'm the gay travel agent in Kusadasi/Turkey.
>I read your message on cruise mates message board
>You don't need a visa for Kusadasi/TR if you are a transit passenger on

Sorry we won't be sailing with you this week but my partner and I will be taking this trip next month; we sail out of Venice on the Westerdam on May 19. Let us hear about your experience when you return. Thanks.
