Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
Danny,
My partner and I stayed at Pineapple Point in January and loved it. The particular weekend we were there, many of the guests were setting off on a cruise.
Pineapple Point isn't the cheapest place, but worth the price in the setting, incredible service and relaxed resort like atmosphere. Along with breakfasts, they have nightly happy hours and a Saturday night cook-out. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the complex of buildings are surrounded by lush landscaping, pool, hot tub, etc... and all just a five or ten minute walk to the main shopping/dining street.
No, not an employee of Pineapple Point, but a huge fan. It would be an incredible way to start a long vacation.
Good luck and have fun!

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
Hi,
It depends what kind of place you're looking for. One of the nicest gay places I've stayed at is The Flamingo Inn Amongst The Flowers. It was first rate all the way, rooms, service and amenities. I will definately go back. They only have about 14 rooms, so if you're looking for more of a crowd, this might not be the place. If you can't find it on the web, let me know. When are you going? Good luck with your search.

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
hey,
I live in Ft. Laud. Both are great places...depends on location you desire though. Is walk to the Beach a priority? Pineapple Point is not walking distance. It is a good 10-15 min walk to the closest gay bar (Cathode Ray on Las Olas Blvd.)
Check out http://www.gayfortlauderdaleresorts.com/
Also, www.hotspotsmagazine.com for other info.
Good luck, and mail me if you need more info

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have did some Internet searching, and really appreciate your ideas. I won't be going until Mid-August (cruise leaves on the 14th) so I still have time to plan. Cheers

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
Thanks everyone for the suggestions of where to stay in Ft. Lauderdale. My partner and I booked the Holland cruise line leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale. Are any of the choices an easy commute to the ship? Thanks, Paul

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
I live in Fort Lauderdale as well. As far as the port goes, any gay guest house will be about the same distance which is only about five miles. Figure a $12 cab ride will get you there. Another great Gay Guest House is The New Zealand House on 15th Street. Its Near several of the gay bars which include, Bills Filling Station, The Cubby Hole, Ramrod, Jackhammer and more..
I assume you are going on the Zuiderdam, wonderful choice, I sailed on her 2 years ago on a RSVP cruise.
If I can help with any other info about Fort Lauderdale, just ask

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
I heartily concur about Pineapple Point - incredible place and super service... getting overheated at the pool? They bring by cold bottled water (free) then popsicles, then cold towels - ahhh....

Re: Ft. Lauderdale - Pre-Cruise
We are staying at Pineapple Point a few days before we leave on our caribbean princess cruise july 3rd. We stayed there last December for a week and loved it. The folks are friendly and the place is beautiful. Great pool and hot tubs. We reserved the cabanna from june 30-july 3rd. We are large group of thirty somethings a few couples , mostly singles. When is your cruise? We have stayed at several gay resorts in key west p-town and ft lauderdale and pineapple point is number one with us!!!
