Hey all,
I need a bit of advice... Want to take my partner on a cruise (as a surprise). I of course will let him know we are going well in advance, but how to present the fact that we are going in a fun way?
We actually live a ways apart at the moment, as jobs have seperated us, but I want to make the announcement as special as the cruise itself!
Any cute, corny, laughable, (naughty), well, okk maybe not but ANY suggestions are welcome. My imagination is unable to come up with anythng that will knock his socks off!
My parter gave me a cruise for my 40th. What he did was have a picture of the ship (QM2) put on the birthday cake. Have a look at the attached pic for details. It was DELICIOUS! :-)

First, go buy two books of stamps and a box of envelopes.
Next, find a picture of the boat or a destination and cut it up into small pieces.
Each week (or month) MAIL him another piece along with a love note and perhaps a white individually wrapped Lifesaver.
There's nothing like opening an envelope from a loved one... especially when it becomes a fun game. Keep him guessing as long as you can, but I guess you'd eventually need to tell him to block the time on his calendar!
All cool ideas. The cake is real neat, and I actually thought of the puzzle thing too, just didn't think I was artistic enough to make a real puzzle.
(Love the whipped cream too, might try that anyway! ;-)))
Thanks for the ideas, hope to see yall on a cruise sometime. I'm thinking we will be on the Sensation out of Tampa in October......... (haven't decidedd yet)
My Scott decided to get me to go on a cruise some years ago. I said never, never, never! I don't like the sea and said I would look ridiculous wearing the water wings the whole voyage. Scott broke his piggy bank and got us the full suite on the MS Statendam cruising through the inside passage Alaska. Needless to say we have been "cruise poor" ever since. A great surprise is an upgrade if it is an option. A cruise is great no matter what, but that extra special treatment is unbeatable! But beware...once you go Suite, the rest is still great ........but one can become easily spoiled! Enjoy!
I was going back and forth from just a nice oceanview to gettting a suite, thinking cheaper might be just as much fun, as we would be together anyway and thats the main purpose of going, but having heard that, I guess Ill go for the suite after all.....
And I guess I'll never be able to go cheap for an inside cabin ever again then, eh?
Oh well, its only money, you cant take it with you , and if you can't spoil those you care about whats the point right???
Thanks again. Oh and David, im getting the picture cut up into little pieces right now!
For us, after sailing on 31 cruises with each other there are very few surprise ideas left. However, the biggest surprise we ever had didn't come from either one of us:
Many months before a cruise, we asked a dozen or so friends if they would like to join us hoping that someone could go, but none of them could alter their work schedules. Although disappointed, we understood. The day we had to depart for Europe arrived quickly and we were on a plane heading for Barcelona. Once we arrived, tired and desperately needing a bath, the first thing we did when we boared the Rotterdam for i'ts inaugural cruise was to head right for the cabin, bypassing looking at any of the public rooms as we would normally do when boarding. We stepped into an elevator, pressed the button that would take us to the deck that our cabin was located on and when the doors opened, lo and behold, 2 friends were standing there to greet us with big smiles on their faces, saying, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!! Needless to say, we were totally shocked!!! For the next 3 weeks, on a wonderful med/transatlantic inaugural cruise, we were know by other passengers as, "the ships glued-together-Quads". What made the surprise even more wonderful was that our frinds live in Florida and we live in L.A. so we don't get a chance to see each other very much because of distance. Wouldn't it be great if you could get a friend or 2 to surprise your partner that way?
I had a similar experience last October .... we were in the embarkation line for the Carnival Spirit to go to Acapulco, when I heard someone calling my name. It was my friend Doreen, whom I have known for 27 years (we went to our proms together). She was traveling with her hubby, and her sister (who my brother used to date). It was just too strange. We had a great time.

No, you will......trust me, the suite is and will be SWEET, but a good deal is as sweet as a suite is as well. Now don't get me wrong Keysguy Mike, I still must always have a balcony, that is one of the things that I just cannot live without, but a full suite all of the time would be great if I was the guy digging Donald Trumps' check cashing card out of the dumpster, but alas, law enforcement just aint big money. We make do (with a balcony), we make do. Have a great time! TonyV.
Well, Firefighting aint big money either, so we are in the same boat (so to speak). Anyway, I think Im gonna try the suite thing, its a Fantasy Class Carnival Im looking at, so no balconys I guess, but the suite looks nice.
Not cruise related, but just wanted to say "Thanks" to you firefighters and police officers.
I've always respected y'all, even befoe 9/11. My father was a Battalion Chief.
Suggestion, how about a strip-a-gram from a guy in a sailor suit! Not advised to be sent to their work!
