Are there any other family members on the Oosterdam on the March 5th cruise, leave a message on here. Hope not to be the only family member on this cruise.

Hi Nebraska Joe
You are not alone! I too will be on the Oosterdam March 5th. I will be traveling solo so I would love to meet family for drinks or chat. This is my second Hal cruise. the first was last Nov on the Vollendam. I meet some great people on that one, two of whom I will do a transatlantic crossing the end of April. Have you been to any of the Mexican ports? The only one I'm familiar with is Puerto Vallarta....great beach!

Hello Bob,

I was beginning to get nervous, being the only family member on this cruise - .

But it is great to hear from somebody before I get to the ship.

This will be my first time on HAL or on the Mexican Riviera.

I have cruised out of Florida the two previous times.

And this will be the first time for cruising solo.

I have thinking about renting a vehicle in PV since we will be there all day.

I hear there is so much to do and see there.

I also hear the have a large community for us to explore, unfortunately the big parties do not start until after we leave port. The party really gets started about Midnight and goes until the early hours.

I guess I have the first round, look forward to meeting up with you.

I wouldn't bother renting a car ... first it's the drivers are crazy, and second you can see so much on foot in PV.

Just take the shuttle van into downtown, and you can go on a great walking tour, the malecon, the Rio Cuale and then on Los Muertos Beach.

Check the Mexico board too

Harry

I must agree with Harry. I wouldn't consider driving in PV. Maybe if you have nerves of steel you could bear it.
The Old Town or Zona Romantica is very walkable.
I know a great little bar to swing by after a day at the beach.
What are your ideas of a fun day at sea?
Mine include, sun by the pool, reading, music, spa time around 4 to 5, and a fabulous dinner.
Do you have the early or late seating for dinner? I always choose late.

Hello Bob and Joe,

Its good to know that there will be other FOD on the Oosterdam March 5th sailing. My partner and I were getting concern that there won't be any like mined guys on this cruise.

Being from San Francisco, we have been to PuertoVallarta several times. This is the perfect time of the year to visit. And it is ture, no car is necessary...Just grab a cab to center of town, do some shopping and head off to the Blue and/or Green chairs.

Since the ship will not be leaving until 10pm, I suggest you enjoy a sunset cocktail at any of the various gay bars that are open from late afternoon. The real bar action does start until midnight at which time, our ship has already pulled anchor.

Looking forward to meeting you guys aboard ship. We just booked the cruise yesterday and our cabin number will be assigned at check in. We do have lower main dinning.

Welcome aboard. What is your partners name? Are you familiar with the ports other than PV? The only one I know is PV. While in PV, I plan on spending my day at the beach then off to a bar for a late afternoon cocktail. Depending on how many drinks I have at the beach, I may have tostagger back to the ship. Only 7 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Robert,

My partner's name is Woody (thats his legal name) We've been together a long long time, but always open to meeting new people and having a good time.

We've been on several Mexican Riveria cruises; several with RVSP's all gay charters. Mazatlan is so, so. Cabo is the "new" hot spot for us West Coaster.

Two good places for sunset cocktails is the roof of the Blue Chairs Hotel and a place called the Cora Vallarta. The later hotel is two blocks from blue chair beach and have happy hours starting at 5pm. They have a very couryard pool were the locals and tourist swim and frolic with a "clothing optional" policy. Too many cocktails......no problem, just into a cab for a about 10USD

By the way, what part of the country are you from. Looking at my Email Address, you can conclude that we are from the San Francisco Bay area.

Looking forward to meeting your aboard ship.

Gilbert

Guys, I can recommend the following tours in Mazatlan (not my fave port either, but these make it fun):

* Randi's Happy Horses -- horseback riding thru the coconut palm tree groves and along the shore on Stone Island. $45 a person for a half-day. Randi is great and very gay friendly. Book/reserve via email. www.randishappyhorses.com

* In the terminal, you can set up a city tour through Marlin Tours for $15. About 3 hours. Takes you to all the main sights and viewpoints in an open ir trolley bus. They have a kisok right in the cruise terminal.

* Colonial Villages tour with Frank. A private tour in an 8-passenger van to Concordia and Milptas (sp?). Also stops at a bakery, tile making place, and we were given a tour of a private rancho. Frank is an excellent guide. This also includes a ride back to the golden Zone for lunch on your own and some shopping. Great tour. Frank will group you with others if you cannot fill the van. Very reasonable and better than the cruise company tour. Book/reserve via email. www.mazatlan-tours.com.

From your last message, it sounds like you and Woody have been to Cabo before. Do you have any reccomendations on how to spend the day in port? Are there any must see's or must do,s. I am always up for a day in the sun. I assume the beaches are good for that. Do you have any tips or ideas.

Bob,

One thing you should do in Cabo is take the glass
bottom boat trip out to the Arches. There are a few
fish etc., but the real experience is the boat trip
itself. I am sure HAL will be selling this tour
aboard the ship, but you can also hire a private boat
when you get to the pier. Cost should be 10-15 usd.

Another thing you should do is take a hike over to the
Pacific side. The beaches are wider, but the water is
quite dangerous. The walk should be 30-45 minutes, but
at the end, you can have a drink and maybe catch a
whale or two. Actually, most of the Cabo beaches are
not swim able.

Of course there is the normal shopping in town and
hitting a few Catina or so.

Well Bob, have a safe journey to San Diego. Are you
flying in a day or so earlier? Since we both do not
have a cabin numbers, do contact the pursers office to
get ours and leave a note. Reservations under Gilbert
Fan and Woody Dauernheim. BTW, Woody is from
StLouis,MO. Of course he deflected from there a very
long time ago.

Hey guys, weather report -- it's beautifully sunny here in San Diego with highs in the high 60s. The weather once in Mexico should be glorious.
