SWM mid 50's sailing from San Diego in October. Can any of you local residents (and or others) recommend a "reasonably" priced Hotel in San Diego, convenient for the Port and other tourist areas. Gay Hotel/establishment is not essential.
Hi Mikey.....I asked the same question and the guidance I received resulted in me making reservations at the Holiday inn bayside right across from the pier. The price on the internet was about 150 for the night and there appears to be a shuttle available. I am sailing on the Atlantis cruise to Mexico and wanted something close to the ship.....this all worked out for me and it looks like it wil not be far from the gay neighborhood for dinner in the evening.
There are way too many choices...so it will come down to what your needs are...if it is for only one night...you might consider the Holiday Inn. My travel agent has used this hotel in the past for one nighters for her customers will no complaints.
Hope this helps.
Tom, Many thanks for your help. I will certainly do some internet surfing and see what rates I can get from the Hoiday Inn. Will likely stay 2 nights so that I can see at least a little of San Diego. Thanks again.
Zoom is right that the Sommerset is right in the center of Hillcrest. I would add, though, that if you stay downtown, it's a lot easier to use the trolley to get around. Art and I did and saw Old Town, the Mission, etc

Just returned from a weekend in San Diego....Stayed at the La Quinta Inn on Moore St. in Old Town, San Diego. Good rates ($85.00 per night) and just a $7 cab ride to airport. It's a charming, quaint part of San Diego that offers good restaurants/other hotels nestled in a beautifully landscaped area. I noticed a Best Western and a Courtyard Marriot just around the corner from the La Quinta Inn. It's a good area to walk about and 3 blks. to the Trolley Station for getting around to downtown area. Really easy to manage. People are very, very friendly in San Diego. About a $10 cab ride to cruise ship pier--which is visible from Old Town/Airport area. Also, Old Town section of San Diego is not too far from the Hillcrest area if you want to go exploring in the day or evening.
