We've cruised to Hawaii 6 times, and as recently as last month, but never on the POA. Sorry we can't offer any info about the Pride.
May we offer a suggestion......If you have the time and $$$ you might want to consider one of the 14-15 day cruises to beautiful Hawaii...sooooo much more relaxing then squeezing in a 7 day cruise and 2 long flights to and from Boston. Just a thought.
Partner and I did Pride in October, 2005. If you are looking for the cruising experience, forget it. If you are looking for a floating hotel to get you from island to island, then do it.
Poor service, rude staff and the ship needs to be updated. Unfortunately I think this is part of the American work ethic. Do as little as you can. Since these ships are American flagged all employees must be legal to work in the US. Ok, I am off my soap box.
Given all of that, once we decided that this was no longer a cruise, as we have come to expect cruises, we had a great time visiting the islands.
The islands are beautiful and cruising around them is much cheaper than inter-island flights. We did not do any shore excursions but rented cars, except in Maui - we took a taxi. Old Lahaina is quite a distance from where the ship docks. Other ships tender or dock closer to the "downtown." I think the taxi was $100 round trip.
Feel free to email if you want more information. I have cruised NCL before, in fact just in July before the October Hawaii. But that was not part of their American flagged ships.
Take it for what it is and enjoy the islands. It is a great way to see them.
