[size=18]HI-
My partner & I (44 & 46) just confirmed a last minute cruise on the Crown Princess. We've cruised many times, however, never on Princess and are really looking forward to it. Let us know if anyone else is on the sailing, we would love to hook up.
We just booked yesterday (4-28) for the same cruise.
We are 43 and 47, so I guess we bookend you guys.
Look forward to seeing you on board,
John and Louis
We were on the Sun Princess back in 2003. It was a very nice ship.
We are in Aloha 230 on this trip. Hope to see you for a drink or dinner. Let us know what works for you.
Great! We don't have a cabin assignment as of yet. Let's try and meet for a drink on sailing day... You can email me at aginsberg@totaltravel.webmail.com
I was also looking at the cruise critics board. there are several others of us on there.
Seems the common wisdom is to look for an annoucement of a "Friends of Dorothy" meeting the first or second night.
Sorry to say that we will not be aboard this cruise as the fabulous banter exchange now going on between you guys almost guarantees a fun filled trip. Bon Voyage and we hope you all have a great time.
The purpose of pulling up this old posting is to get some comparative feedback from those who were, back then, preparing to sail with this ship.
With all the banter about the Crown Princess out of New York, we put that one on our calendar and were aboard her for the Canadian Provinces and New England States sailing Sept.29-Oct.6.
Quite frankly, we were very disappointed with the Crown having sailed on the Diamond, the Grand, and the old SKY. Did anyone else have the feeling that you were at a stadium? Not only because of the number of passengers but the overall ship decorum was absent with a feeling of a free for all. Staff was obviously new, exhibiting a lack of English comprehension and with the number of staff indoctrination lectures noted about the ship, we got the impression it was being used primarily for training. Stateroom size was sparse and one could do ALL their toiletries in one position. I got the feeling that Princess may have bitten off a bit more than it could chew with the launching of the Crown.
To be fair, the cuisine was certainly up to Princess' standards and the new port in New York is grand and most welcomed.
Would appreciate any comments on any Crown sailing.
Other than the Crown, I have only ever been on the Sun. I found the Crown to be more up to date, with prettier decor and a fine crew. I did not run into any English barriers.
The food on the Crown was much better than the Sun. as a matter of fact the food on the Sun kept us away from cruising for 4 years.
I really enjoyed the Crown. The activities staff was friendly, organized and made the games and such feel fresh even though they had probably done these things many times before.
The Friends of Dorothy group was the largest anyone could remember, probably about 20 or so.
We went the entire cruise without once thinking, "That guy is a jerk and I wish he would fall overboard."
We had a balcony stateroom and found the size to be fine. The bathroom was not huge, but I found room for all 6'2" and 200lbs of me.
I am truly sorry you did not enjoy the ship; for us it was a very positive experience.
