My partner and I going for a first time cruise on the Veendam In June (European cruise from Venice to Copenhagen). I understand that Holland America is geared towards a more mature clientele. Does this mean they are also more open to gay couples? Does anyone have a negative experience on Holland America?

I have been on 16 Holland America cruises and never noticed any problems with gay couples. HAL is starting to appeal to a younger clientel. I have been on the Veendam 4 times and it is by far my favorite ship. You are going to love it. It's not too small and not too large. It's just right. Enjoy the Veendam.

Went on South America tour on Holland American in March.......I'm 58 but I was a baby onboard. Well, there was one real baby.....I was there with other str8 and gay friends.....I don't think there will be a problem but not many gay coupes on Holland America.

Our two experiences of HAL have been very good. Indeed, on the Zuiderdam in Oct 2005 we met more gay and lesbians friends than on any cruise before or since. In three weeks we embark on our 3rd HAL cruise (Boston to Montreal), one which I anticipate will be an older crowd but who knows - there'll be 14 of us plus my mother and her boyfriend.

The advantage of sailing with an older crowd - there's never crowding in the evenings.

We have met a couple of cruisemates through these boards but most of the time it's about making eye contact and saying hello.
