Hello! We are interested in meeting other LGBT couples on our Mediterranean cruise this November. We are so excited for this trip and are really looking forward to it. Would love to meet others to socialize with on the ship with the possibility of exploring offshore together during the day. We have the late seating for dinner. We'll also be in Rome for about a week before the cruise and in Athens for probably 3-5 days after the cruise and would be happy to meet up then also.
We are a lesbian couple, together 10 years, ages 30 & 44 - your age is unimportant to us (most of our friends are 55+). We are both self-employed professionals who live in Port Townsend, WA, a small town on the water, located west of Seattle. This will be our first time to all of the destinations on this itinerary.
As far as our travel style goes, we enjoy more independent type traveling than going on the typical organized shore excursions. We love exploring by walking, shopping (more browsing than shopping), and eating our way around a destination. We generally enjoy these aspects of travel much more than history. We also tend to like destinations where we can (mostly) use public transportation or walk to get from point A to point B. As far as museums go, we'd most likely pick a modern art museum or an archeological museum over any others.
We'd definitely like to connect with some (non-smoking) travel companions, particularly for the Turkey and Egypt parts of this itinerary. Egypt might be the only guided tour we take just because of the limited time we have relative to the amount of travel needed to reach what we're interested in seeing, plus it just feels safer.
We've already begun arranging a private tour from Alexandria to Cairo - we'd be open to inviting up to 2 other friendly couples (or 4 singles) to join us if our interests overlap. Cost will be less than the $159 p/p excursions the cruise offers and it would be a much smaller group. English speaking Egyptologist would travel with us while in Cairo. We intend to visit the pyramids & sphinx, have lunch, then do the super highlights of the National Museum - probably the King Tut exhibit and perhaps the Armana period stuff (the style change during this period is really interesting as they moved temporarily to a monotheolistic stage). Then we'll end in Khan El Khalili Bazaar for shopping/exploring before returning to Alexandria. Round trip a/c transportation would be from the dock.
Would be happy to talk/email with any GLBT folk (and friends) that might be interested in socializing on this ship! And if you're interested in travel companions for Egypt/Turkey, even better.
