I take 4-5 cruises a year and have been recently booking either a Mini Suite or a Full Suite. I always leave the Cabin Steward an extra gratuity at the end of the cruise. I am looking for some advice as to the proper additional gratuity to leave when staying in a Mini Suite or Suite.
We stayed in the Owner's Suite on a Transatlantic crossing once, and the "butler" was the worse cabin steward of any we've ever had (room not made up in the morning; not turned down in the evening; no ice; dirty sinks). We're relatively neat and he did nothing that a regular steward didn't do. We're not cheapskates, but we couldn't justify giving him any extra money for no extra work. Sorry - I'm sure he was expecting twice the normal tip (maybe four times normal, since the room was four times as large?)
On a similar matter - our feeling is that if you're on Royal Caribbean and going to the concierge lounge getting free drinks - you should make sure you tip the concierge attendant at least as much as your drink tips would have been if you'd bought them from him/her - plus extra because s/he memorizes everything within 5 minutes of meeting you.
