Gay Dad here also going on Celebrity cruise next month with my 8 year old son. My other 1/2 is staying behind. We've cruised as a family before. Overall, no one seemed to care we were a gay family. We posed for pictures together. We did everyhing together. People knew. No big deal.
However the last time I cruised alone with my son, there was a gay group on the cruise (representing maybe 15% of the passengers). I was not affiliated with the group; I was not part of their tour. However, when we were exiting the ship in St. Thomas, this 6'5" blowhard behind me went off on a homophobic rant. I was literally shaking with anger. I'm sure he suspected I was straight as I had a child who somewhat resembled me. He went on for about 5 minutes before I turned around and exploded on him. I told him my son didn't need to be exposed to his ignorance. He asked me if I was raising my son to be gay. I thought my head was going to explode. We had to stand next to each other for about another 20 minutes. When we exited the ship, a few people in earshot came over and apologized to me.
