Default Patches make you sleepy???

On my last two cruises I have gotten sea sick and thrown up many times. The first cruise I thought it was the 35 foot waves...........probablly was!!! But the second cruise there was NO storm and I still threw up for two days! A girl we met used the patches and she slept the whole trip. I used the dremamine? and slept a ton! I am thinking of using the patches but will it make EVERYONE sleepy? I have to have relief because I love these cruises SO much! but if I sleep through it then I am MAD! so any solutions??????

Brittany...I have been told that ginger capsules well help. You can purchase them in a blister pack of 30 gel capsules for about $14 at your health food store. Start taking them a day or two before your trip and continue throughout the trip. My friend keeps them in her purse and uses them whenever she has an upset stomach and they work great. Also, there is always the wrist band which you can purchase at a boater's shop. Good luck! Vickie

Vickie, the drug in the patches (scopolamine) is not usually associated with causing drowsiness. In fact, because it is distantly related to caffeine, it is usually expected to cause stimulation. The most prevalent side effect from the patches is a horrendous dry mouth that occurs in almost 60-70% of the people who use them. The drug can also cause some disconcerting visual disturbances, but it usually occurs in only about 3-6% of the people using the patch.

I hope you find this information useful.

I am very prone to motion sickness. I can't ride theme park rides like Star Tours or even the Tea Cups that go round and round in Disney. I have been seasick big time on a whale watch where I couldn't even lift my head to see a whale. I went on my first cruise prepared. I used 1/2 of a patch behind my ear and I was fine. I saw people get very sick one night on the ship, and on two other excursions. Every time I thought, "Thank God, that would be me for sure." I don't want to spend all that money to miss dinner or sleep in my cabin. If you've never used them and are worried about side affects, try 1 out at home a week or so before you go. I am going again this summer, and I am having my doctor write me a new prescription tomorrow.
