Default Benadryl for sea sickness?

I rember reading somewhere that benadryl could be taken for sea sickness. Is this true? I was sick on my last cruise and waited too long to take the bonine. It kept me awake so I was wondering about the benadryl. Thanks.

I believe it was the Bonine that kept me awake as I also had a very dry mouth. I was queasy but didn't vomit until after we had docked in the morning. I actually felt better after that.

Benadryl is an antihistamine, and in the same general class of medications as Bonine. The dry mouth is common for antihistamines. If Bonine kept you awake (it is more likely to cause drowsiness), then you may expect the same kind of paradoxical effect with Benadryl. However, this shouldn't keep you from trying it....they are different molecules, and can effect you very differently.

Hope this helps you understand a little more! Happy cruising!
