I called my insurance company yesterday and they informed me that they will cover any medical expenses i incurr on the cruise. The only thing I have to do is make sure everything is translated to english and Peso converted to Dollars. Has anyone else had to fill a claim against your medical insurance and did they pay off?
You'll usually find that there is an excess. ie. You have to pay the first $50 of any claim.
They do this to stop people putting in a nominal claim to recoup some or all of the premium they paid. Also the admin work for a claim of less than $50 costs more than the $50.
When they ask for a translation - that depends on how accurate they want it. Do they want a certified translation? That would cost too.
Also, (God forbid) should you require extensive medical cover - call the insurance company first and get them to ok it. Often they can settle direct with the hospital.
Beware if you go to France though. I've heard and witnessed horror stories about the medical services there. I've seen people stranded on mountain sides with a broken leg and not being taken down until the Medical team have been paid in cash in advance for transporting the person down.
I dont know how to say this other than to say it. I dont believe anyone was left stranded with a broken leg until payment was made. I'm not quite sure why you tell that story but no one with any kind of common sense would believe it.
