Default Getting sick on your vacation

Just wanted to see if anyone else had ever experienced this, and if anyone had any tips on avoiding it. The first time I got sick was in '97 on the Destiny. I believe it was from food poisoning, because my friend and I both had the same symptoms, and we both went out to eat at the same place the night before we left and had the salad bar. Probably the sickest I've ever felt in my entire life, explosive diarrhea, fever, nausea,I couldn't even move at some points. Then 2 years later on the Imagination out of a group of 5, 4 came down with pretty severe flu sypmtoms. I am wondering if the climate change had anything to do with it, as I live in NJ and cruise in March. Anyway whenever I cruise now I am terrified of becoming ill, because it ruined two trips. There is nothing worse than being sick on a cruise, as I look forward to it all year, I am a very healthy person hardly get sick, and then I get sick on my vacation. Although my last one on the Spirit was healthy!

It sounds like the Norwalk virus and the only more common virus is the common cold. It is transferred from hand to mouth and it develops in your intestine. It can also come from improper food handling or raw seafood. When we go on trips I carry the Lysol disenfectant wipes and spray. I wipe everything in the cabin, including the remote control, light switches and the bathroom .. I don't want to be sick either and so it is time well spent to do a quick wipe down .. Never use the public bathrooms and wash your hands all the time, carry your own purell bottle and be a little over zealous.

get a flu shot, use common sense precautions. Wash your hands often, have a small bottle of Purell handy. If you use the public restrooms, again wash your hands really well. Get plenty of rest on your cruise, don't over do it. Drink plenty of water inbetween the frou-frou cocktails. Also up your daily intake of Vitamin C ( drink an extra glass of OJ) great germ fighter.
