We have just disembarked from the NCL Gem Trans-Atlantic.. and I want to say.. I have NEVER IN 24 years of cruising seen a ship so clean and immaculate.. One evening going back to our cabin we found a cleaner washing the baseboards of the hallway on h is hands and knees, in the Garden Cafe as they were changing around from lunch to snacks a man was cleaning the pedastals of all the tables..the rugs were being wiped down, dirty tables and dishes were cleaned immediately.. There was somebody always using a little vacuum cleaner in the heavily trafficed areas of the ship. Our first visit to the Cafe we were taken aback by a man saying "washie-washie"and a young girl spritizing hands, but after a few days it grew on you....automatic hand washers everywhere...and personell reminding you. This was simply the opposite of our cruising on another line in April.... BIG THUMBS UP... to the crew of the NCL Gem
The Food and Beverage Manager mentioned that during an Alaska cruise when most ships came down with cases of Norovirus his ship didn't...and I don't t hink it was the Gem, Paul..After just cruising another well known line (I dare not mention the line..lol) and Celebrity in recent years . the other line...not to be mentioned, never even came close to the cleaning that I saw myself visually...On the rough days at sea and they were rough...the floors in the Garden Cafe were continually being wiped down..and oh yes..a huge staff that insisted upon your letting them take your plates to your table on a tray.... No, things were not perfect and I did keep a log which I'm going to put ito a review warts, bouquets and all...This "mass market" line actually made using hand sanitizers fun and you went out of your way to use them..
NCL Pride of America was immaculate! People were cleaning everywhere constantly. Not only did they have the automatic hand sanitizers everywhere I turned, but they also frequently stationed employees at meal times outside of the dining areas with sanitizers.

When I first heard WASHIE-WASHIE. at the entrance to the Garden Cafe I would of liked to have tossed a pie in his face..lol, but found out later the ACT and WASHIE WASHE was a corporate decision to make sanitizing your hands FUN, after almost two weeks you got into the WASHIE WASHIE mode.
