We just booked our first ever cruise on the veendam. We are going on the southern caribbean cruise and was looking for any info about the ship.We leave dec.8th.Any advice about cruising will be greatly appreciated.
The ship is a the 4th of 4 in the Statendam series, a midsized ship of 55,451 tons with an excellent space ratio because she usually carries 1266 passengers.
She's very representative of the Statendam series. Inaugural was 1996 and when I sailed aboard her she was in fine shape.
These are general things. The more specific your inquiry, the clearer picture you can get on what the ship is like.
One thing I'll say you picked Holland America Line, a quasi-traditional line, which attracts many traditional cruisers. You do not get the glittery, multi dining venue, huge multi deck atria, huge noisy active casinos of other lines but something quieter and more restrained and often people adhere to the dress codes. Much of what you may want to know is in HAL's brochure, and there are plenty of reviews about the Veendam at cruisemates and cruiseopinion.com, including mine (at cruiseopinion.com).
