Hi, I will be on the British Isles and Western Europe trip on the Amsterdam that departs at the end of this month. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything regarding the water on board. Is it safe to drink? Safe to brush your teeth with? How much does bottled water cost onboard? Is there bottled water one can purchase when going aboard for shore excursions, and how much does it cost? What brand of water do they sell? Should I bring a bunch of bottles myself? Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for any info.
The water on the Amsterdam will be OK to drink. It is a new ship and like the MS Veendam, I sailed on a couple of months ago, the ship will make its own water fron sea water every day. The ship makes thousands of gallons of drinkable water daily. I drank the water from the tap in my cabin and it was good.
Holland American Line places sodas and bottle water in each cabin, but it is very expensive. If you use the room furnished beverages you will be charged for them and the room attendent will automaticely replenish them-they are not complimentory.
Sodas were over $2 and the bottled water was over $3. I can't remember the exact price since it was too expensive for my taste. If you favor bottled water over tap water you better bring your own. However, if you just want to take a bottle of water along on your shore excursion then bring along empty bottles in your suit case and fill them up on the ship. You can discard the bottles before you disembark the ship and use the extra space in your suitcase for your trip purchases. The same goes for sodas or mixed-drink mixers- bring your own or your will be paying quite a bit. For those people going ashore, the ship also sells quart-size water bottles at the gangway for an even higher price.
Hope this answers your questions. Have a good trip!
Please advise me of the shore excursions that you took or heard about as I am taking this same cruise in July. I would love to know the best ones. Your experience could certainly help me.
