Internet / Phone Access

We are sailing on Volendam in June and was wondering whether anyone had experience with Internet access or cell phone use on an inner passage cruise. From what I have read the satellite phone is $15 a minute so I assume that cell phones do not work there and that HAL makes good revenue off of the satellite phone service. I'm on vacation but unfortunately, one of our party is on call and needs to be able have email or phone access.

Anyone have any experience in this area?
