Sports Fan -
Well...since you asked......was on Westerdam in 1-98; took my twin nephews for a high school graduation-gift cruise. Since you're a sports fan must mention that this was during Super Bowl when MY team, the Green Bay Packers played (and unforunately lost to) the Denver Broncos. There was a great party in one of the lounges during the game, and we had John Stallworth and LC Greenwood on board. Lots of fun! Anyway, for that cruise had a low category outside cabin, they're somewhat smaller than on the newer HAL ships but are adequate. You're on a short cruise so your cabin won't matter much, but you'll they're nice. She's not a flashy ship, more a classic liner, but I really liked the Westerdam. She had a different kind of charm the newer ships don't seem to have. She'll be fine for your short cruise, and one of the last times to cruise on her since she's been sold (don't recall to who) and is out of HAL's service as of next year. If you've never been there, Key West is a blast, it's one of my favorite "stay at" vacation spots. If you're a cat, or literature, lover you have to see Hemingway's. The trolley tours are good for an over-view, and I enjoy the Mel Fisher museum. If you're there at sunset, there's fun sunset party at Mallory Square every night. Nassau is OK, the straw market can be seen quickly if you're interested, but be prepared to be pestered. It's nice to go over to Paradise Island to the new resort, darn, the name escapes me at the moment, or the beach, to spend the day. I've never found the casinos in the Bahamas anything to rave about though; in Nassau I usually just do a beach or pool kind of day. Be on deck when you pull out, it's kind of a nice departure IMO. The private island is very nice, but repect the waves if they're strong when you're there; had a scary experience on a float there one time, got slammed right to the bottom when I was out too far and had a hard time getting back in even though I'm a pretty good swimmer. I'm sure you'll love cruising and will be posting to tell us you've booked a 7 day or longer cruise soon after you get back. Might I recommend Alaska for next summer?.......Enjoy!!
